59 Movies in 35 Days

Yes, I still have a blog, although I've been so busy with Spitball! and other projects that it's taken a back seat. And unfortunately, it will probably continue to do so for the near future.

However, even though I'm not writing about films for the time being, I am concerned about my slow viewing pace. Looking over my Listology lists, I figured out that, as of yesterday, I'll need to see 59 movies in the next 35 days (now 34!) to catch up.

I'm stupid enough to try.

To that end, I'm using a free tool called Backpack to set up a public page so friends, family, strangers, The Funky Four Plus Two More, etc. can keep track of my journey. Take a look at the opening slate of 22 movies here.

UPDATE: I'll be updating my progress every Monday morning with a note at the bottom of the Backpack page.

2nd UPDATE (6/1/06): Yeah, this is over. It was pretty much over about two weeks ago when I had to take care of some family business and watching movies just wasn't in the cards. But the dream lives on -- look for the sequel in July or August.

Where we saw it: dvd , film | We deign to rate it: 1 idiot outta 100

Hmmm. Interesting. Maybe some friendly competition help you out. I'm on a record pace so far this year (although nowhere near that Staup fellow on Listology), but I could step it up even more if necessary. I'll have to come up with my own viewing list for the next 34 days. Link to come!

Woo hoo! It's officially a meme! ;-)

If time permits, I might sign up too -- I'm 40 films off my pace from last year. Then again, maybe not... we'll see what my crazed writing schedule can allow. (The problem with getting review copies of CDs is that you're eventually expected to actually review them.)

Here's my list. I'm leaving about 15 spots open in case I acquire a bunch of "Australian DVDs" before the Digital Millennium Copyright Act II: Electric Boogaloo is signed into law and they ship me up the river for ten years.

Wow...pretty ambitious goal. You go, boyee! For me, I've found it's a lot easier to go crazy watching films in the theater. I saw 4 in one day at SFIFF last week and I thouroughly enjoyed it (thanks to all the snacks I smuggled into the theater). I saw 9 in two days at home in December and I never wanted to look at the TV again. Are you going to work in some SIFF screenings at the end of May? I'm looking forward to member preview day on 5/10.

I just had part of my toenail removed (by a podiatrist who, while preparing the needles of anesthetic, decided to tell me -- I shit you not -- how much he liked "Hostel"), so I'm couchbound for a bit. So I certainly hope I don't get sick of the TV.

I believe Martin and I (along with Greg?) are up for the Secret Fest this year. Other than that, I'm going to have to play SIFF by ear. But one of these days, dammit, I'm gonna get another week pass, or better yet, a full series pass. But not this year.

I'd really like to make it up there for next year's SIFF. Something to work towards, I guess.

We'd love to have you, Scott.

My 59 Movie Stats (as of 5/09):
Movies Seen: 17
Remaining: 42
Days Left: 23
Keeping Pace:Not really. I need to average 1.83 movies a day to succeed.

Okay, so I'm not nearly keeping pace, either. It was a worthy goal, but it's just not gonna happen. And I don't have any excuses; I still don't have a job and it's too hot to spend much time outside.

Yeah, it's over for me as well. It was pretty much over last Monday, but it took me a few days to realize it. I had some family issues come up and watching movies just wasn't in the cards.
